Happy (freezing cold) Friday! Just as I was beginning to pack away my snow boots and flannel sheets for the season, Old Man Winter decided to finally pay us a visit this week. I was excited for spring, but I have to say, now that blankets of snow cover the mountains, I’m suddenly craving hot cocoa, roaring fireplaces, and days spent skiing, sledding, and cozying up at a secluded log cabin tucked deep in the woods. Considering our current weather, today’s featured engagement shoot couldn’t be more timely.
Plaid coats and shirts? Check. Sorrel boots? Check. Hats, scarves, and gloves? Check, check, and check. From head to toe, I’m loving the style of Salt Lake couple Elise and Samantha in this cozy, winter engagement shoot by David Newkirk Photography.
Newkirk styled Elise and Samantha’s engagement shoot, and he shares the details of his inspiration below:
I’m obsessed with cozy, woodsy, hipster-ish style, and camping, flannel, fur hats, glasses, trees, and wood piles. Basically, I want to live in a J.Crew catalog. Elise and Samantha let me play out some of my ideas, and I think the mix of snowy trees + warm winter accessories + two people in love is extremely cozy and intimate. Mission accomplished!
Check out the oh-so-cool photos, then read on for more about Elise and Samantha, and the commitment ceremony they’re planning this summer!
Elise and Samantha are tying the knot on August 4th at Canyon Rim Park. The duo has been together for six years; they met in the American Sign Language Interpreting Program at Salt Lake Community College. Elise gave us the scoop on Samantha’s proposal and the couple’s upcoming commitment ceremony.
We got engaged on Christmas Eve. In the morning, Sam took me to volunteer for the National Jewish Center for Women. After that, she took me to one of my favorite restaurants: Red Iguana. When dinner was over, she took me home–our friends had set up the living room with pillows, blankets, and white lights. We dished up some ice cream and Sam pressed play on the DVD player. She had worked for three months to put together a movie of many of our close friends offering marital advice, and she added in some old home videos of us. When the movie ended, she said some very sweet words and popped the question. I believe I said “yes” at least four times.
Although Sam is a stereotypical tomboy, we are both wearing dresses. Sam’s dress is by Pronovias and my dress is by Justin Alexander, both from The Brides’ Shop in Salt Lake City. We wanted a ceremony with neutral, earthy colors but not necessarily with a set color theme. We both knew we wanted it outside with the tress all around, and Canyon Rim Park turned out to be the perfect venue for us. We’re receiving so much support from our amazing friends and some awesome professionals. This commitment ceremony wouldn’t be possible without them.
Congratulations Elise and Samantha!
Many thanks to Elise, Samantha, and David Newkirk for sharing this heart-warming engagement shoot with us today.
Have a great weekend, friends!
