Les Petits Sucres

Butter and sugar and flour, oh my! Wow your wedding guests with delightful pastries, confections, and desserts.

MIDAS TOUCH
Sometimes less is more, even when it comes to wedding cakes. You don’t need multiple tiers or elaborate designs to impress your guests. The modern alternative to topsy-turvy confections? Chic, single tiers like this French vanilla version by Cassidy Budge of Flour & Flourish. “I’m loving the single-tier trend right now,” says Budge. “A single tier can make such a statement.” Edible gold brush strokes on a canvas of mint-hued fondant add bold flair to an otherwise simple but no-less-delicious design. Pair your single-tier sweet with an array of mini delights, like these coconut-flavored French macarons, each dressed with a stroke of gold.

COUTURE CONFECTIONS
Precious jewels or posh chocolates? These creative sweets, each handmade by Ruth Kendrick of Ogden’s Chocolot Artisan Confections, are beautiful accents to dessert spreads or fancy favors for guests. Kendrick’s flavors are as exquisite as her designs; our boxes of chocolates include raspberry lemonade, passion fruit, crème brûlée, molten caramel, beehive honey, hazelnut gianduja, strawberry balsamic, Mexican vanilla, fleur de sel salt caramel, espresso lavender, and Canadian maple.

Pete Tidwell of The Mighty Baker specializes in wedding cakes, but his delicious pastries—all made from scratch with European butter—are equal crowd-pleasers. Our favorites? His signature Dutch Stroopwafels, thin-pressed Belgian waffles sandwiched with a cinnamon-caramel syrup and dipped in milk, dark, or white chocolate (we love the heart-shaped version); Scandinavian rosette cookies, funnel cake–like treats topped with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar; mini cream puffs filled with pillowy vanilla Italian buttercream (try adding the house-made fruit preserves for a fresh twist); and elegant éclairs, also filled with vanilla Italian buttercream and hand-dipped in milk or dark chocolate (we fancified ours with edible gold luster dust).

LIKE BUTTER
Sure, the Wasatch is known for our powdery-soft snow, but our most divine offering just may be the flaky, gooey, crunchy Kouing Aman at Salt Lake City’s Les Madeleines. Owner and chef Romina Rasmussen has perfected the buttery, salted-caramel tinged French pastry, and her truly addictive treat has gained a cult following—Food & Wine, O The Oprah Magazine, and the Food Network are all fans. Special order a fresh batch for your big day, or commission Rasmussen’s take on the croquembouche made with mini Kouing Amans—sure to be the pièce de résistance at your event.

THE BIG CHILL
Jell-O may be the unofficial dessert of Utah, but we really all scream for ice cream. In Midway, Millie and Roger Medby are satisfying those sweet-tooth cravings with Bee’s Knees Ice Cream. Their creamy and sorbet treats are made with premium ingredients—no fake stuff allowed—following more than 200 recipes. Favorites include pistachio, peanut butter, espresso, coconut-almond, and their popular-with-all-ages cake batter flavor, made with real cake batter and sprinkles. Hire their modern-retro ice cream truck to roll up to your event and dish out hand-scooped, homemade cones, like our three-tier version made with chocolate, raspberry, and mint chocolate chip.

Similar to Mexican-style paletas, these frozen treats are made locally in small batches using fresh, natural ingredients including real fruit, cream, yogurt, and hormone-free whole milk. The pops come in delicious gourmet flavors like honey grapefruit, coconut dark chocolate, strawberry basil, peanut butter chocolate cookie, chocolate salted caramel, and more. 20160505_SLPCB&G_2745NEW SENSATION
Sorry cupcakes, but there’s a new sweet in town: the current darling of wedding desserts is the doughnut. We’re not talking fried, greasy spudnuts, folks—these moist brioche-yeast morsels by Park City’s Twice the Dough are an elegant upgrade: they’re made with all-natural ingredients—real fruit, vanilla bean, milk, and eggs—and are free of unnatural dyes and preservatives. Serve them by the platter or as late-night takeaways in custom flavors and toppings, or choose from Twice the Dough’s current roster of 16 flavors, including gluten-free and vegan options—you can even request a custom doughnut cake.

These scrumptious squares by Twice the Dough, some brushed with au natural edible gold dust, include three of the shop’s popular flavors: When Life Gives You Lemons, filled with fluffy lemon curd and dressed with a sweet-tart lemon glaze; Let’s All Go Coconuts, filled with heavenly coconut cream and topped with a coconut glaze and toasted coconut shavings; and Dirty Moose, filled with a smooth chocolate mousse and draped in a rich chocolate-ganache glaze and dark chocolate curls.
