Fashion Frenzy: Your First Look at Nordstrom City Creek! (Opens Tomorrow!)
Tomorrow, downtown Salt Lake City’s long-awaited City Creek Center opens its doors to the public, bringing retailers like Nordstrom, Michael Kors, Tiffany & Co, and Brooks Brothers–to name a few–to the heart of SLC. But lucky us, we got a sneak peek of the new Nordstrom City Creek during last night’s Grand Opening Gala. And folks, Nordy’s new digs did not disappoint.
We were among a crowd of more than 1,100 guests who were the first to preview–and shop–the new Nordstrom store. Proceeds from tickets to the gala event helped raise more than $82,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Utah Chapter and the Utah Symphony/Utah Opera.
Between perusing handbags and sandals on the main floor, we dined on Indian-inspired eats, specialty salads, gourmet meatloaf, and dessert buffets from SLC’s The Blended Table Catering and Events. Upstairs on the second floor, a live performance by violinist Ysanne Spevack and tunes spun by DJ John Grammatis provided dance-worthy entertainment among new-to-SLC designer collections like Alexander Wang (yes!), Jason Wu (double yes!) and Roberto Cavalli (triple yes!).
The glowing 125,000 square-foot store was like an issue of Elle and Vogue come to life thanks to live vignette modeling featuring American and European designer looks for spring 2012. Featured designers included Alice + Olivia (a personal fave), Burberry Prosum, Diane von Furstenberg, Dries Van Noten, L’Agence, Marc by Marc Jacobs, McGinn, Michael Kors, Milly, Rachel Zoe, and Robert Rodriguez, as well as men’s lines like Burberry, Hugo Boss, John Varvatos, and Joseph Abboud.
The shining stars of the new store are the exclusive apparel and accessories boutiques from GUCCI, as well as the Balenciaga handbag collection (seeing these beauties was my personal highlight of the night–I will be visiting them on a weekly basis), and shoe collections by Jimmy Choo, Miu Miu, Prada, Valentino, and Yves Saint Laurent.
For beauty buffs, the cosmetics department was brimming with lip sticks, eyes shadows, nail polishes, and perfumes in the latest spring hues and scents from Armani, Bobbi Brown, Bond No.9, Butter London, Chanel, Creed, Diptyque, Elie Saab, Jo Malone, Kate Sommerville, La Mer, MAC, and more.
At the end of the night, our feet aching from our four-inch heels, we were sent home with custom boxes of yummy cake bites from SLC’s The Sweet Tooth Fairy. The gourmet bakeshop even created a specialty German Chocolate cake bite exclusively for the event.
Needless to say, the event was a fashionista’s dream come true. We can’t wait to return and get our shop on. Again. And again. “Hungry For Fashion?” Yes, us Salt Lakers were starved, but not anymore. Welcome back to the neighborhood, Nordstrom–we missed you!
