Best Tressed: Wedding-Day Hair Inspiration from NYFW

You’ve found your dress for the big day, but how will you be wearing your tresses? Get inspired by a few of our favorite hairstyles from the Fall 2014 runways at NYFW, from waves and braids to low ponytails and swooped bangs.

Just Swoop It

Take a cue from the Nike logo, and get your swoop on. Dress up strands with a deep side part and swooped bangs—all the better paired with winged eyeliner a la Erin Fetherston (top) and rosy cheeks a la Opening Ceremony (bottom).

Down-Low Ponytails

There’s an understated elegance to a low ponytail—the look complements minimally styled wedding dresses and over-the-top ball gowns. The style works especially well with medium-length locks as demonstrated at Derek Lam (top) and Rebecca Minkoff (bottom).

Chic Chignons

The chignon is a wedding classic. For a new twist on the traditional style, wear it low and loose as seen at Jenny Packham (top) or high and topknot-esque as seen at DVF (bottom).

Ride the Waves

Soft, shiny waves cascaded down models’ backs at Rodarte (above). To achieve wavy locks, see the style below. Add some pizazz to wavy wedding-day styles—and keep strands from falling in your face all night—by twisting back the front section and securing with a sparkly clip or antique brooch.

Pretty Plaits

Braids are still a big deal, and they’re a definite wedding-day “do” in our beauty book. We love the imperfection of the plaits at Tibi (top). At Mara Hoffman (bottom), stylists combined waves and braids for a fresh, bohemian look.

Au Natural Texture

Forgo heat styling and let your locks air dry to achieve cool-girl style like the models at Novice (above). Small braids are the cherry on top of texture-rich strands.

Sleek & Straight

Still having a love affair with your flat iron? If the models at Suno are any indication (above), polished, pin-straight strands are making a comeback. Get a gloss treatment or refresh your color for extra glamor on the big day.
