New Venue! Conestoga Ranch at Bear Lake
The glamping resort offers a unique, rustic-chic setting for destination weddings and honeymoons.
Not since PB&J or June Carter and Johnny Cash has there been a better match than glamour + camping, aka glamping. Roughing it in style—think Pendleton blankets, pour-over coffee, and, ahem, plumbing—is a hip lodging trend and currently all the rage out West, including right here in the Beehive State.
Hot on the red-rock heels of Moab Under Canvas, Utah is now home to a second upscale glamping resort: Conestoga Ranch. The resort opened in July and covers 18 acres near the shores of Bear Lake, or as locals call it, the “Caribbean of the Rockies” thanks to the area’s enchanting turquoise-blue waters. The property can accommodate up to 160 guests at a time, making it ideal for a unique, rustic-chic destination wedding venue or getaway for close-to-home honeymoons.
Forget the hassle of setting up your own tent or getting tangled up in a sleeping bag; the resort aims to make “camping” easy, cozy, and comfy by taking care of all the work. Bunk up in one of eight traditional-style canvas glamping tents, complete with en suite bathrooms (i.e. flushable commodes) and hot showers, or in one of 16 custom-crafted conestogas, also known as covered wagons. All accommodations feature soft beds and fresh linens.
“The wagons add an Old West ambiance to the resort, and a uniquely fun sleeping experience,” notes Tom Hedges, one of the ranch’s five founding partners. (Love where you lay your head at night during your stay? The tents and wagons are manufactured by Canvas & Company just south of Garden City, Utah, and are available for purchase outside the “glampground.”)
The Campfire Grill, located in the resort’s timber-framed lodge, serves breakfast and gourmet steaks and wood-oven pizzas for dinner. The Campfire Grill also prepares customized picnic baskets for daytime outings, and provides catering for on-site weddings and events. Snack attack? Grab a Kobe-beef hot dog or munch on s’mores. A curated selection of craft beers and fine wines are available at The Campfire Grill and a small bar outfitted with saloon-style swinging doors.
While at the resort, experience the beauty of Bear Lake via paddleboards and other rentable water recreation equipment. Check out live entertainment and rodeos, or channel your inner adolescent with ping-pong tables, arcade and video games, and an activities field. After working up a sweat, cool off with a local summertime favorite: fresh, creamy Bear Lake raspberry shakes made at the resort’s Shake Shack. We love the idea of serving mini versions of this fruity ice cream treat in tandem with your wedding cake!
