Meet the Photographer: Chantel Marie

We got the scoop on the lady behind the lens and what she's currently crushing on.

We kicked off the week by announcing the #SLCFashionBridals photo shoot giveaway in collaboration with a handful of top-shelf Utah wedding vendors, and for the remainder of the week we’re turning the spotlight on each of those local pros.

First up, meet Chantel Marie Hardy of Chantel Marie: wedding and fashion photographer, recent-ish bride, part-Aussie by marriage, and all around babe. She’s the lady behind the lens for the bridal shoot giveaway, and if you consider yourself more of an alt/rock/fashion bride than the traditional damsel in white, Chantel is the gal for your big-day gig.

Get a glimpse of Chantel’s work, read our Q&A, and find out why she’ll always be a member of the flower-crown fan club, below.

Q | Why weddings?
A | Despite my love for fashion photography, weddings give me an opportunity to travel and meet amazing people and their families. It’s special to be a part of a monumental time in someone’s life and be there to capture how they love each other.

Q | Describe your overall style and/or aesthetic…
A | 35mm film + fashion-inspired. I love to create work that is lifestyle and embodies movement. I love images that are NOT perfect, but spilling with shadows, grain, organically spread natural light, and subtle color. I’m inspired by moments that you can feel, rather than a smile at the camera.

Q | How long have you been at it?
A | 5 years

Q | Wedding trend you love?
A | I will always love the flowers-in-your-hair trend. No matter how overdone flower crowns may seem, the boho girl in me will forever be a fan.

Q | Wedding pet peeve?
A | Not being left with time to shoot couples’ portraits on the big day; the bride and groom feeling rushed when really it’s their day and the photos are usually always one of the most important things to them, but they’re being told to rush to the next thing on the schedule.

Q | Favorite wedding or style blog?
A | Hello May Magazine

Q | Best Instagram feed?
A | @davisayer or @imogenevonbarron

Q | Who does your hair?
A | Lauren Lloyd at Lunatic Fringe Parleys and Cari Eggen of Bombshell Extensions Co.

Q | What item of clothing or accessory has been in heavy rotation this month?
A | Bells pants!

Q | What item of clothing or accessory are you currently coveting?
A | Turtlenecks!

Q | Favorite local coffee shop or cafe?
A | Gourmandise. It will always be my fave Utah cafe because it’s where my hubs Jordan and I spent many breakfast dates together when we were dating [heart eyes].

Q | Best local restaurant you’ve tried lately?
A | The Copper Onion; the Copper Onion salad at lunchtime

Q | Current soundtrack?
A | Angus & Julia Stone

Q | Salt Laker you’d most like to meet?
A | I heard one time that Zac Efron was from Utah, so probably him, haha.

Q | Wedding pro you’d most like to meet?
A | Jessica Tremp. I’m very particular about the style I like and especially for photos of me and my Jordan… THE moment I saw a picture of an Australian beach wedding she shot, I was swooning that I finally had an example of exactly what I wanted. She was the photographer I ideally wanted for our wedding in Australia, but sadly with our quick elopement she wasn’t available.

Q | Where’s you next travel destination?
A | Australia! Two years ago we got married there in my husband’s hometown and next year we’ll travel back for the first time since our wedding.
